A typical morning at Seagry pre-school

To give you an idea of what happens at the pre-school we've outlined a typical morning's activities.

9.15Session starts, parents sign their children in and are greeted by staff.
9.15The children are free to play with the activities that are out.
9.30All children self register by hanging their name on our registration bus, they then sit on the carpet and the register is taken. A child is then chosen to count all the children present and record it on a white board. We also record the date and the weather on our weather board. The topic for the week is discussed and the children are free to show anything they have brought from home which is topic related.
9.45The mornings activities begin, these include an art activity relating to the topic, playdough, role play area, sand trough, floor activity e.g. Brio, writing table and book corner.
10.10The snackbar is opened for the children to have a snack. the children have to find their names from their drawer and take it to the snack table. They then have a choice of healthy snacks to choose from such as yoghurt, cheese and biscuits, fruit and vegetables. The menu is different each day. Milk and water are also offered. The snack bar usually closes at about 11am or when all the children have had a snack. Activities continue whist the snackbar is open.
10.20The art activities are cleared away when all the children have finished. and a selection of toys including jigsaws, threading and lacing, lego and small construction are put out.
11.00This is when the messy play is put out and we have anything from water to gloop and wet porridge to shaving foam. This activity is alway popular with the children. Throughout the whole morning the role play area, writing table and book area are available to the children.
11.15We will have out either the large apparatus, trikes and ride ons, beanbags and balls or have a music and movement session. We try to get out in the garden as much as possible even in the winter, so if we are able to this is the time the children put on their wellies and coats and go out for some fresh air.
11.40All the children are allocated areas to help tidy up. We then all meet back on the carpet for story time.
11.50We spend 10 minutes sat in a circle discussing our morning, where every child has the opportunity to speak.
12 noonwe end the session with singing, either individually or as a group.
12.15Parents collect the children.
